MORE THAN JUST A BRAND: A COMMUNITY
Anat International is a slow-fashion streetwear brand and community originating in Gaza, Palestine. We like to think of ourselves as a global force that transcends boundaries and breaks norms. Our garments are designed to be worn by all genders, for we believe that embroidery is genderless. And intentionally, all our garments are cut, sown, and hand-embroidered by both women and men.
Typically, Palestinian embroidery is branded as “feminine”. The common perception is that embroidery takes place in “female” spheres, be it in women’s households, workshops, or tailoring stores. Not only that, but embroidered clothing is usually worn by women.
At Anat, we create timeless embroidered garments that can be worn by both menand women. We also encourage men to participate in this craft so that they can start inhabiting spaces and engaging in a skill traditionally confined to one gender. After all, embroidery, with its beauty and history, should be enjoyed by everyone and anyone.
We are also proud to say we are part of the slow-fashion movement that is pushing the conversation about the perils associated with fast-fashion, specifically its effects on human labor, the environment, and animals. As such, Anat does not manufacture in bulk and is focused on producing consciously, ethically, and sustainably. Anat re-conceptualizes embroidery and aims to spread this ancient art way beyond Palestine, to the rest of the world.
